A Liverpool talent has said admitted that he has held discussions with Arne Slot this summer amid rumours that he could leave.
The Dutch coach is firmly stuck in with his new job after replacing Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season, with Slot tasked with building on the Liverpool legend’s legacy and taking the Reds into a new era.
Despite making no new signings, it’s clear that Slot is keen to push the Merseyside giants on from the Klopp years, with the former Feyenoord coach showing his plan in Liverpool’s 1-0 pre-season win against Real Betis.
And one youngster has said he has held talks with Slot about his future.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, youngster Fabio Carvalho has said that he has spoken with Slot about his role with the team, amid ongoing rumours that the former Fulham wonderkid could leave Anfield for good this summer.
Carvalho thrived out on loan in the second-half of last season with Hull City, and with first-team minutes not guaranteed, there’s a real chance that the attacking midfielder could depart Liverpool again this summer, whether it be temporarily or permanently.
Carvalho said when asked if he’s spoken to Slot about his future: “We’ve had a few conversations which I’m not going to go into detail about but he wants me to get my head down and work hard and see where that goes.
“[The spell with Hull] was crucial, I needed game time and I was happy when I was playing. Every footballer wants to be playing week in and week out and I feel I got the best of myself when I was there and playing.”
Another loan move could be perfect for Carvalho this summer
Lauded by Klopp as an ‘outstanding’ prospect, Carvalho clearly has the potential to go far with Liverpool if the Reds can find a way to unlock the 21-year-old’s potential in the coming years.
And after Carvalho’s success at Hull last season, another loan move to an English side could be exactly what the winger needs to take his development to the next step, especially if Slot has no plans to use the youngster for the new season.
Indeed, Carvalho knows he can take his game to the next level if he can get a regular amount of playing time, and the former Fulham man simply won’t get that at Anfield with Liverpool in the upcoming campaign.
