Skiing legend Lindsey Vonn isn’t ready to close the book just yet.
In her first major television interview since the devastating crash that ended her 2026 Milano Cortina Olympic dream in seconds, the 41-year-old icon has clarified she is entertaining the idea of returning to competitive skiing — even if it worries her family.
Speaking candidly with TODAY’s Craig Melvin, Vonn addressed the burning question head-on: Is a comeback in the cards after the horrific left leg fracture, broken ankle, and multiple surgeries that nearly cost her the limb?
“I never got a final run. I never got to say goodbye,” she explained. “It leaves the door slightly open… maybe I would do one more race to say goodbye. Maybe I’ll race again. It might be fun to do one more run. We’ll see.”
When directly asked if she’s entertaining another comeback, Vonn didn’t hesitate:
“I mean, much to my family’s dismay, yes.”
The admission comes as Vonn continues her intense recovery — progressing from wheelchair to crutches, knocking out pull-ups in the gym, and rebuilding both physically and mentally one determined step at a time. She’s been open about the emotional toll of the crash and the isolation of rehab, noting she’s still “trapped in this I didn’t have my Olympic dream situation.”
Yet Vonn also stressed she can move on if needed. She already retired once in 2019, built a fulfilling life outside the sport, and knows she’ll be happy either way. For now, though, the fire that fueled 82 World Cup wins and Olympic gold still burns.
“I don’t like to close the door on anything because you just never know what’s going to happen,” she added in related interviews.
Her father’s recent push for retirement only seems to add fuel to the defiant spirit that has defined her career. Vonn has repeatedly shown that being told she “can’t” is the fastest way to motivate her.
Fans have erupted online with a mix of excitement and concern — some cheering the possibility of one final farewell run, others hoping she prioritizes long-term health after years of battling injuries.
Whether it ends with one emotional goodbye race or a full surprise return, Lindsey Vonn continues to write her own script. Recovery remains the priority, but the door to the slopes? It’s staying cracked open.
