Lindsey Vonn’s comeback has a co-pilot, and he fits in a carry-on.
The Olympic champion has spent the last stretch of 2026 on the road with Chance, her Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, and she is not dressing the partnership up. On Instagram she wrote, “Chance makes life better ❤️🐶 so happy and thankful to have him on the road with me!” Fans did the rest. The comments filled with hearts, “lucky dog,” and the same observation her recovery posts have drawn all summer: the two of them look settled.
Chance is not a new accessory. Vonn adopted him in August 2025 after losing Lucy, another Cavalier who had traveled the World Cup circuit with her for years. He arrived when she was not sure she was ready for another dog. A season later, he is the one in the frame when the schedule gets heavy — hotel rooms, recovery days, the stretches between public appearances.
This month the picture widened. Home for a few days to rest and recharge, Vonn posted the formula in plain language: the dog, the mountains, and the house she calls her sanctuary. A little work, she added, of course. Then one last bike ride before winter, and she was off again. In August, months after the complex tibia fracture at Milano Cortina that nearly cost her a leg, that first return to the road bike had made her cry. Getting another ride in, with Chance still in the story, read less like a vacation and more like a life being put back together in the right order.
The year has not been soft. An ACL rupture, the Olympic crash, multiple surgeries, and more still ahead. Red carpets and magazine covers have carried the public half of that recovery. The private half keeps showing up with floppy ears and a wagging tail. For an athlete who has lived out of suitcases her entire adult career, the best life right now is not a finish line. It is a pup on the road, a few quiet days at home, and a caption that does not need a speech.
Chance makes life better. She already wrote the headline.
