Jerod Mayo opens up about Patriots’ coaching searches

The Patriots plan to interview Rams coach and former Patriots assistant Nick Keiley for the vacant offensive coordinator job on Monday.

This news came from Jerod Mayo, who conducted the interview. Mayo confirmed Kali’s interview with WEEI this morning, saying all interviews, including those for his first staff defensive coordinator and special teams coordinator, were virtual.”

We have just started this process. So far it’s been about expansion,” Mayo said. “We’re going to bring people in this week. Plus, you want to hire people you like and are good at what they do. Zoom interviews are really philosophical questions, not X’s and O’s.

“And once they get here, X and O get down to business.”Rams running backs coach/passing coordinator Zach Robinson is scheduled to be interviewed on Tuesday, according to Sports Illustrated.

Mayo also confirmed that Bill Belichick has given his sons, running back Steve Belichick and safeties coach Brian Belichick, the option to stay in New England. Bill Belichick interviewed twice for the Falcons’ head coaching job last week, and if he gets the job, he could give one or both of his sons a chance to work in Atlanta.

“Our relationship is very good. They have a chance to stay.” Mayo said of Belichicks Jr. “You have an opportunity to go with your dad if you want to. We are still a little past this stage. I have a good relationship with both of them.

They are great coaches. Let’s see what happens.”Mayo interviewed Panthers running backs coach Tem Lucabu, Saints running backs coach Michael Hodges and Broncos defensive backs coach Christian Parker for the defensive coordinator position. Defensive ends coach DeMarcus Covington remains a strong internal candidate for the position.

For his role as special teams coordinator, Mayo targeted Falcons special teams coordinator Marquis Williams, former Giants special teams coordinator Thomas McGaughey and Rams special teams assistant Jeremy Springer.
