Filip Jorgensen is hopeful of returning in time to get his chance in Chelsea’s Conference League clash with Panathinaikos this Thursday, with the goalkeeper having missed out on making the match-day squad at Liverpool because of suspected concussion. Jorgensen, who is the Blues’ cup goalie bidding to overtake Robert Sanchez as No 1, had to be substituted while representing Denmark’s Under 21s last Tuesday after colliding with a team-mate. The 22-year-old has shown no adverse symptoms since returning to London, but Chelsea are following the FA’s return-to-play protocols, hence his absence at Anfield on Sunday. There has been no specific…

Chelsea must abandon one star in particular if they want to fight for the Premier League title, Jamie Carragher has claimed. Chelsea were beaten 2-1 by league leaders Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday and in truth they could have come away with a positive result. The Blues had more shots and more of the ball but couldn’t find an equaliser late on as the hosts held out for their seventh league win of the season. It has been an encouraging start under Enzo Maresca for the Blues, who sit sixth in the Premier League and had gone unbeaten in seven…

Chelsea-bound wonderkid Estevao Willian has broken a record that was previously held by Neymar. The Blues, in May, officially announced the signing of the 17-year-old from Palmeiras in a £28m deal that could rise to £55m with add-ons. The forward will join Chelsea in the summer after he turns 18, and he has continued to impress in his native Brazil. Estevao registered a goal and an assist in Parlimias’ 5-3 win over Juventude on Sunday night. It took his goal contributions in Brazil’s Serie A this year to 18, becoming the most productive under-17 player in the league’s history. Estevao…

Pedro Neto was once again named as a substitute in Chelsea’s 2-1 loss against Liverpool on Sunday. Since joining Chelsea from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a £54m deal over the summer, Pedro Neto has only managed to make two starts in the Premier League. That has largely been down to the form of Noni Madueke and Jadon Sancho. However, after a disappointing first half against Liverpool, the latter was taken off at the break and replaced by Neto. And the Portuguese did not disappoint when he came on. In fact, Leon Osman thought Neto was so much better than Sancho on…

After Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League, Arne Slot and Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca disagreed over the influence of the Anfield crowd on referees. When both sets of supporters come away from a game with a negative view of the officiating performance, it generally isn’t a good sign. While Liverpool can look back in bemusement at some of the decisions made with three points now safely secure, emotions on Sunday ran high and Slot picked up his first yellow card for the Reds. After the match, both he and Chelsea‘s boss, Maresca, thought that referee John Brooks had…

Erling Haaland is the only Manchester City player to score more goals directly leading to points this season than John Stones after the defender left it late again against Wolverhampton Wanderers. Five weeks on from firing in his 98th minute to draw with Arsenal, Stones headed home in the fifth minute of added-time at Molineux to take all three points back to Manchester. In doing so, they remain only one point behind Liverpool, who stayed at the top of the Premier League table after their win over Chelsea. While that gap remains the same, City’s advantage over Mikel Arteta’s side…

Two weeks is a long time in football. Since Manchester City beat Fulham earlier this month, they have won a massive legal battle against the Premier League, announced the departure of their influential Sporting Director, announced his replacement, and seen Pep Guardiola linked with an England job that then went to Thomas Tuchel. Football was thankfully back on the menu at Molineux as City faced Wolves, and Guardiola went for his chaos approach over control. This season he can field starting line-ups which lean heavily in either direction or with a mix of both depending on the opposition. When Guardiola…
