In hindsight, the Cleveland Browns made a big mistake with Deshaun Watson’s contract. Whatever the case, giving him a fully guaranteed, five-year deal worth $230 million seemed risky then, and things look much worse right now. Even so, the team continues to have his back, at least publicly, and chances are they will never admit any fault or regret about that decision. Moreover, GM Andrew Berry, while non-commital to Watson, also didn’t shut the door on a potential return. As much as the fans have already expressed their discontent with their quarterback, the financial aspect makes it very difficult for…

Browns GM Andrew Berry started his bye week press conference by stating questions about the future of the roster were more appropriate for after the season. He can push those questions back publicly, but the reality of the situation is Berry’s team is barreling towards transition after this disappointing season concludes and that’s the real focus the rest of this year. Even if the Browns can rally for a strong finish, that sort of momentum rarely carries over year-to-year. Berry himself has even talked about viewing each season as its own separate entity.

With the Cleveland Browns at 2-7 and having been sellers at the trade deadline, it’s fair to assume the season is a wash. After starting a struggling quarterback all season until the team was forced to bench him with a season-ending injury while having an aging offensive line and horrendous cap management headed into 2025, the Browns are primed for an all-time bad season. Again. GM Andrew Berry decided to meet with reporters during the Browns’ bye week to address that bad season, but to the surprise of no one who follows the team, he really didn’t answer any questions…

The Deshaun Watson Era — which has been an unmitigated disaster — might be coming to a close. Prior to the 2022 season, the Cleveland Browns shipped three first-round picks to the Houston Texans for Watson and then gave him a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract. Watson didn’t play in 2021, after he faced over two dozen allegations of sexual misconduct and sexual assault. Watson was never criminally charged but settled over 20 lawsuits. Despite the accusations, the Browns still believed that Watson would be their franchise quarterback and lead the team back to glory. That hasn’t come close…

The Pittsburgh Steelers have always played a smashmouth style of football. They won six Super Bowls on the backs of defenses that weren’t afraid to put their bodies in peril to make brutal hits. When guys like Jack Lambert played, the rules were much looser, and they got away with much more. However, with concerns for player safety, the league has changed. Steelers who came later, such as James Harrison, Troy Polamalu, and Ryan Clark, played on the cusp of two worlds as the rules evolved. Some of those players had an easier time than others adapting. Current players have…

Harris, selected in the first round of the 2021 draft, has faced considerable criticism due to his draft status but hasn’t often received the recognition some believe he deserves. His future with the team has now become a hot topic of debate, especially as he is in…

“That’s young Josh Allen 2.0.” That’s how New England Patriots defensive tackle Davon Godchaux described rookie quarterback Drake Maye after Sunday’s loss to the Tennessee Titans. And much of that was due to his heroics in the final moments of regulation. So on Wednesday, A to Z Sports spoke exclusively with Godchaux about why he made this comparison between Maye and Allen. “That was crazy. Looked like Josh Allen to me. I’ve been playing against Josh Allen a long time and Drake looked like every spit of Josh Allen, so that’s a good thing,” Godchaux said. “So hopefully we, him…

It’s snowing in the Wasatch, and by the weekend, there could be as much as 19 inches of new snow. New Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Mike Williams and edge rusher Preston Smith are at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex and set to likely practice on Wednesday with the team. Johnson was traded to the Carolina Panthers in March. Smith will wear No. 91, the same number that he wore with the Green Bay Packers. Rookie defensive lineman Logan Lee last wore No. 91, but he will…
