The Pittsburgh Steelers are in search of competition with Kenny Pickett this offseason, but maybe an option many have named their top choice isn’t their ideal option. Justin Fields’ name has been mentioned alongside the Steelers plenty of times this offseason, and over the last several days, that engagement has ramped up. So much so that they’re believed to be one of three teams who reach out to the Chicago Bears for a potential trade and have even had projected trades predict what it will take for Pittsburgh to acquire Fields.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to keep at least most of their pieces together this upcoming season, which includes players who may have been on their 2023 roster as fillers. With free agency approaching, the Steelers are evaluating which players they’ll look to re-sign and which they’ll let walk. They’ve already started working through cuts, releasing three players earlier in the week. Next, they’ll decide which of their own free agents they’ll negotiate with – which includes one of their starting cornerbacks. During an interview with Ron Lippock of Steelers Takeaways, slot cornerback Chandon Sullivan said he and the Steelers…
Every single Pittsburgh Steelers pass catcher who had more than 3 receptions last season is under contract for 2024. But Bleacher Report’s Joe Tansey still argued on February 14 for the Steelers to target veteran receiver Noah Brown in NFL free agency. “The Steelers could use a physical possession-based wide receiver who can complement [Diontae] Johnson and [George] Pickens,” wrote Tansey. “Noah Brown fits that mold with his 6’2”, 215-pound frame. “Brown could take some pressure off Johnson and Pickens when it comes to wide receiver production and he would allow [Pat] Freiermuth to not be the only option Pickett…
The Pittsburgh Steelers remained patient and saw quarterback Kenny Pickett fall to them at No. 20 overall in the 2022 draft. ESPN’s Field Yates sees the same thing happening again with Bo Nix in 2024. In his latest mock draft on February 14, Yates predicted the Steelers to select Nix at No. 20 overall. “This one might be a surprise, as the Steelers have backed Kenny Pickett — who they took at No. 20 two years ago — this offseason. But they also said they plan to add competition for him in the quarterback room,” wrote Yates. “Nix blends sharp…
The last two defensive coordinators of the Pittsburgh Steelers before Teryl Austin are enjoying retirement. But Pittsburgh’s defensive coordinator prior to Dick LaBeau’s second DC stint, Tim Lewis, has a new job opportunity. ESPN’s Pete Thamel reported that Boston College is expected to hire Lewis as the program’s new defensive coordinator. “Sources: Boston College is working toward hiring Tim lewis as the school’s new defensive coordinator,” Thamel wrote on X (formerly Twitter) on February 13. “He’s a longtime NFL assistant coach who has worked for six different franchises, including defensive coordinator for the Steelers (2000-03) and Giants (2004-06).” Lewis served…

Obviously, this particular trade is good for Chicago because it clears the way for Williams (or whichever quarterback they draft) to start immediately (if that is the direction they wish to take). Barring any other trades involving the Bears in the first round, they also retain the ninth overall pick which they can use on a wide receiver. The additional second round pick they receive from the Steelers would allow them to address other positions of need early in the NFL Draft. PFF projects that they would use that pick to draft Penn State edge rusher Adisa Isaac. Most importantly,…
Just IN: Chicago Bears Trade Justin Fields to Pittsburgh Steelers in Latest PFF Proposal
One of the biggest questions the Chicago Bears face this offseason is what to do with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Of course, this is the pick that they acquired from the Carolina Panthers when they trade wide receiver DJ Moore. It ended up being a steal for Chicago who ended the 2023 season with a top-10 pick themselves, but not a high enough one to take one of the premier quarterbacks. Obviously, the second-biggest question (and one that relates to the first) the Bears face is what to do with quarterback Justin Fields. Do they…
The Steelers made a few cuts on Monday as they attempt to get under the salary cap ahead of free agency, but they are still projected to be $7.44M over, which means more releases are likely on the way and one could be in the form of an eight-time Pro Bowler. That player is veteran CB Patrick Peterson, who signed a two-year, $14M contract with Pittsburgh last offseason. Peterson will be 34 at the start of next season and has a cap hit of nearly $10M, per Spotrac. That’s way too much money for a player that was consistently picked…
Cleveland Browns fans’ dislike of the Pittsburgh Steelers is strong. Once Minkah Fitzpatrick hurt Nick Chubb and TJ Watt whined on social media that he lost Defensive Player of the Year to Myles Garrett, the level of vitriol hit new heights. In a lot of ways, the Browns and Steelers are in the same place going into 2024. Both teams made the playoffs in 2023 but were taken out in the opening round. The AFC North rivals have huge question marks at the quarterback position and changed offensive coordinators in the offseason. Pittsburgh just released QB Mitch Trubisky as the…
