Ben Chilwell, a defender for Chelsea, has a ‘severe’ hamstring injury, according to manager Mauricio Pochettino, who did not provide a timetable for when he would return.
The 26-year-old’s injury that forced him to leave the game against Brighton in the EFL Cup on Wednesday has been scanned.
Prior to Monday’s Premier League match between Fulham and Chelsea, Pochettino made this statement in a press conference.
The doctor told me that Ben Chilwell’s injury is bad news, but we need to analyze it over the course of the next three days, according to Pochettino.
He claimed it is “difficult” to predict Chilwell’s return date but that things would clear up in the next days.
Due to a thigh injury, Chelsea’s right-handed skipper Reece James will be out until after the international break; Chiwell has filled in for James.
They are the best full-backs in the world when they are performing at their peak, according to Pochettino.
“Important players are missed when they don’t play at all clubs.
“If the inquiry is, ‘Do we miss them?’ No doubt. Both Reece and [Chilwell] are good players.
Chilwell featured in just 23 Premier League games last season due to a hamstring injury, while James only appeared 16 times due to knee, thigh, and hamstring issues.
The competition for the full-back position in Monday’s Premier League trip to Fulham includes Marc Cucurella, Levi Colwill, and Axel Disasi. However, Pochettino claims that no one in his squad can entirely match the quality that his first-choice full-back partnership consistently produces.
“All teams are affected [in their performance] when they miss important players,” he continued.l
“Why didn’t we sign another Reece James and another Ben Chilwell? Because there is only one of each Ben Chilwell and Reece James.
It’s challenging to add another player in the same position to the squad if you already have a quality player in that spot. It concerns balance.
Reece James won’t be ready in time for Monday’s game, although Carney Chukwuemeka and Noni Madueke might, according to Pochettino.
