The matchup between Liverpool and Tottenham in the Premier League on Saturday night will be a difficult test for both teams, according to Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, the Reds will likely have their toughest test to date when they take on Ange Postecoglou’s undefeated Spurs.
Tottenham is one of only four teams in the Premier League that have not yet lost, but Liverpool is also a member of that group and is two points ahead of Spurs in second place.
When asked if the game is the biggest test of the season thus far during the pre-game news conference on Friday, Jurgen Klopp responded, “It is a really tough test. I can’t think of a game that was simple; the one we played in Newcastle was challenging. Chelsea too; all of the away games have been challenging, and home games are challenging.
“Tottenham is doing really well,” he continued. I’m excited to meet Ange [Postecoglou], who seems like a great guy. You could tell what a great coach he is if you watched Celtic play. He has produced quality football in the year since Harry Kane’s departure. They are fascinating to watch, as he is doing so well. We’ll both be put to the test.
Klopp’s team has won four straight games by a score of 3-1, including a comeback against Leicester in the League Cup on Wednesday.
Tottenham will attempt to begin a Premier League season with a seven-game winning streak for just the third time (unbeaten in their opening 12 games in 2016โ17 and first seven games last season).
Additionally, Jurgen Klopp stated that Ange Postcoglou’s setup at Tottenham is different from how he usually lines up against the Lilywhites: “Both teams will play football [in Saturday’s match].” You played against the strongest counterattacking squad in the world in recent years, so this is both excellent news and brand-new information.
When asked if he was surprised by how quickly his new additions had fit into the team, Klopp responded in the affirmative.
He added that during the summer, the group talked about a “new start” and gave themselves “a chance to build the foundation of a team.”
