Salah, a muslim, posted a photo of a christmas tree with a caption in which he addresses the conflict between israel and palestine, before wishing his followers a ‘merry christmas.’ Muslims do not traditionally celebrate christmas, but some do participate in the festivities that take place during the christian holiday.
Salah was chastised by followers on social media last year after posting a picture of him, his wife magi, and daughters makka and kayan posed in matching pyjamas in front of a christmas tree. For his traditional christmas post, he has been chastised by muslim followers. Another supporter wrote: ‘this is so uncouth salah, you are a muslim not a christian.’ “our christmas is on april, shame on you, my dearest cousin.” Someone who claimed to be an arsenal supporter wrote: ‘mo salah, i loved you as an arsenal supporter.’ I regarded you as an excellent player and you always inspired me.
However, after reading this tweet, i can no longer imagine you as my role model. You disappointed me. I will have to unfollow you if you don’t delete this tweet.’
Others defended mo, with one saying, ”as muslims, we shouldn’t judge.’ But every christmas, everyone loves to judge salah. I’m guessing we’re not all perfect. “free palestine.” One tweeter said, ‘this is a powerful message and a reminder to keep those innocent civilians in our thoughts.’ “much love, mo.” Salah wrote in his message, as well as the picture of the christmas tree: “christmas is a time when families gather together and celebrate,” he wrote. We enter christmas this year with a heavy heart, as the middle east is being wracked by war, with particular emphasis on the destruction in gaza, and we feel the pain of those families who are mourning the death of their loved ones.
