Jurgen Klopp has vowed never to manage another English club again after deciding to leave Liverpool. The 56-year-old Reds manager has shocked the football world by announcing he will step down at the end of the season.
Klopp admitted he had “run out of energy” after almost nine years in charge.Speculation is already rife as to who will replace the German, including former Manchester United midfielder Xabi Alonso, who currently manages the Bundesliga with Bayer Leverkusen, and Brighton manager Robert de Zirvi.
There will also be great interest in Klopp’s next destination. At 56, he will be middle-aged and in managerial demand. He plans to take a break before returning to football. Wherever he is, he won’t go to any other English club because of his loyalty to Liverpool. He said:
“There will be no club or country next year. “There will never be another English club,” he vowed. “I didn’t think about [the future] because I didn’t have time. I need to know because I don’t know what a normal life is. “You can trust me to find the item for you, so no one has to worry.”He also said he lacks the ability to change direction like Sir Alex Ferguson.
The legendary former Manchester United manager announced his retirement in 2002, but changed his mind and went on to manage the club for 11 years. “No, I had to make the decision because nobody else made the decision and there was mutual respect.
“I’ve thought about it a lot and my mind won’t change if we win everything this season and my mind won’t change if we don’t win anything.” This is a decision that has nothing to do with the outcome. So it’s a good time to hand it over to someone else.”
