The Green Bay Packers are rumored to be nearing the end of their search for their next defensive coordinator.
As every fan knows, unpopular and embattled defensive coordinator Joe Barry was fired by head coach Matt LaFleur earlier this week. Many fans wanted it to happen, but the LaFleur stalwart wasn’t sure he could do it.
Following the decision to fire Barry, Green Bay expressed interest in four candidates, including former Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley, Dallas Cowboys defensive backs coach Aden Durde, Buffalo Bills coach Bobby Babic and defensive backs coach Denver Broncos, Christian Parker.
Green Bay needed the team’s permission to interview Durde and Babic. It is not known if any of them were interviewed. However, Babich interviewed with the New York Giants for the defensive coordinator position, and two other teams asked the Cowboys for permission to interview Durn.
It seems unlikely that Green Bay will begin the interview process with just four names. However, these four names were the only ones revealed to the public. Staley and Parker actually applied for the position. It’s important to note that the Packers have yet to announce any hiring decisions.
However, two Packers officials offered Parker a job in Green Bay, according to sources.Brian Maafi, co-host of Go Dads Go with Gilbert Brown, said his source came from the Denver Broncos organization. At just 32 years old, Parker will be an important voice as the Packers have one of the youngest rosters in the NFL.
He doesn’t stick to a single defense plan. During his time as an NFL coach (including two seasons with the Packers), Parker worked for Mike Pettine, Vic Fangio, Ejiro Evero and Vance Joseph. Current Broncos defensive coordinator Joseph Parker had this to say last summer:”He’s sharp,” current defensive coordinator Vance Joseph said of Parker on June 14. – It’s sharp. He is a star.
He is a great partner to work with. As an experienced trainer, I have been involved in coordination for about 7 years. I have tape and I’m looking for other ways to do things with it. “[I] talk to Christian every day and get a sense of what he was doing with Vic [Fangio] and those guys before. [We’re] making changes and building on what we did last year.
He is smart, hardworking and his players love playing for him. He is a star.Parker has worked under three head coaches since joining Denver in 2021: Fangio, Nathaniel Hackett and Sean Payton, which gives you an idea of how adaptable and valuable he is.
Each of them saw how valuable it was to their success. If Parker is indeed the defensive coordinator, it could be the start of a very different era for the Packers defense.
