As well as finding a replacement for Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool are also looking to replace sporting director Jörg Schmatke, who is set to leave at the end of the January transfer window.
Liverpool are interested in hiring Bournemouth technical director Richard Hughes as their next sporting director.The Reds are looking for a new sporting director after Jörg Schmadtke announced he will leave the club at the end of the January transfer window.
The German only arrived in January 2023 but is set to leave at the end of the season as part of a major shake-up by owners Fenway Sports Group following the departure of Jurgen Klopp. According to the Daily Mail, Hughes was pictured replacing Schmadtke in his Cherries job. The 44-year-old came through Arsenal’s academy and played as a midfielder for Bournemouth, Portsmouth and Grimsby.
He retired in 2014 and joined Bournemouth’s coaching staff when Eddie Howe took over as manager. Hughes was promoted to technical director and has recently achieved success. Some of his signings have helped Andoni Iraola’s side impress in the Premier League this season. “When I was a player I didn’t have to work on the recruiting side,” he told Bournemouth’s website in 2019.
