Liverpool played their first home game since Jurgen Klopp announced his move against Chelsea at Anfield on Wednesday night. The two sides drew 1-1 in the second leg of the Premier League fixture at Stamford Bridge last August. Prior to this, these two teams had drawn each of their last six meetings in all competitions.Despite the two teams showing different performances from match to match (whether Chelsea are struggling towards mid-table or Liverpool are performing well), they are only one point behind each other. In the second leg, Luis Diaz scored a goal in the 18th minute of the first half and Axel Diassi scored a goal for Chelsea in the 19th minute of the first half.
There’s a lot to be thankful for as this game ended 2-2 in January 2022. Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, Mateo Kovacic and Christian Pulisic all scored in the game, but none appeared again this time two years later.
Liverpool’s top scorer Salah had no problem scoring goals despite being on international duty with Egypt. He is unlikely to return from AFCON 2024 in time to play here.
