The Green Bay Packers are interviewing a former All Pro linebacker for the defensive coordinator position. Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur continues his search for his next defensive coordinator.
Last week, LaFleur decided to fire Joe Barry after three underwhelming and underwhelming seasons. During LaFleur’s final tenure, the Packers decided not to renew Mike Pettine’s contract, and LaFleur entered the recruiting process wanting a defensive coordinator with Fangio’s style of defense. But this time around, the Packers’ head coach seems more interested in securing a quality coach than hiring a particular program. When he interviewed former Los Angeles Chargers coach Brandon Staley, a student of Fangio’s, the candidates he interviewed or asked to interview came from a variety of backgrounds.
To date, the coaches confirmed to have been interviewed or asked to be interviewed by the Packers are as follows:
Brandon Staley (former Chargers head coach)
Christian Parker (Denver Broncos defensive backs coach)
Bobby Babich (Buffalo Bills linebackers coach)
Aden Durde (Dallas Cowboys defensive line coach)
Dennard Wilson (Baltimore Ravens defensive backs coach)
In his final search for a defensive coordinator, LaFleur interviewed nine candidates. In addition to those five, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero revealed a sixth Packers prospect.
