It was all about training at the AXA centre as the news of Jurgen Klopp’s resignation shook the football world. Several notable things spotted including multiple returns from injury.
After Liverpool reached the final of the Carabao Cup on Wednesday (January 24), the Reds must prepare for another cup game when they face Norwich this Sunday in the fourth round of the FA Cup.
Klopp and his team were all smiles today in training – perhaps not reflecting the feelings of many on Merseyside – while many youngsters practiced with the first team. Here are the things we noticed today.
Liverpool fans will be relieved to hear that the experienced Thiago is back training with the squad. The midfielder has been out since the end of last season since requiring surgery for a hip issue.
Pep Lijnders previously said that Thiago wouldn’t be available for the end of this month and that “it will probably be going into the next month to train with us.”
Kostas Tsimikas has been seen training today after a broken collarbone. This and the return of Andy Robertson means that Liverpool’s full back options are beginning to have more depth again.
Another man returning today is Dominik Szoboszlai, after being withdrawn from the Reds’ win over Newcastle on New Year’s Day with a hamstring issue. The number eight was seen smiling with teammates.
Trent Alexander-Arnold was also spotted on the turf after suffering a knee injury in early January during Liverpool’s FA Cup victory against Arsenal. It is possible he will be in the squad for Sunday’s clash with Norwich, with Jurgen Klopp saying yesterday: “With Trent, is it already Norwich or is it the game after? We have to see.”
Seven young prospects were spotted training with the first team today, including 16-year-old Trey Nyoni and the recently impressive right-back Conor Bradley, who has stepped into the shoes of Trent Alexander-Arnold after his injury.
The full list of youngsters in training today:
Jayden Danns, 18 (England)
James McConnell, 19 (England)
Fabian Mrozek, 20 (Poland)
Lewis Koumas, 18 (England)
Conor Bradley, 20 (Northern Ireland)
Trey Nyoni, 16 (England)
It wouldn’t be surprising to see any of these players in the squad for the clash against Norwich this weekend as Klopp will want to give them an opportunity to play, given that Norwich are a Championship side.
