Liverpool have been named among clubs who have a ‘concrete interest’ in signing PSV Eindhoven star Johan Bakayoko this summer.
The Reds are yet to decide on their new manager after Jurgen Klopp announced he will be leaving the club at the end of the season. However, they are still being linked with players to sign in the summer. Bakayoko’s name has come up again.
Despite the defeat at Arsenal last weekend, Liverpool are in a fantastic position.
They are currently on top of the Premier League table, still alive in the FA Cup and the Europa League and are just one win away from lifting the Carabao Cup.
If everything goes their way, the Reds could end up with a quadruple, which would be the perfect way to say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp.
The German may not be the only one who’ll leave the Reds. There have been suggestions that Mohamed Salah could leave too, with Saudi Arabian clubs strongly interested in his services.
If the Egyptian does end up moving on, Liverpool will need a replacement, and Voetbalkrant claims that the Reds, along with Manchester City, PSG and Bayern Munich, have ‘concrete interest’ in signing Johan Bakayoko.
PSV technical director Earnest Stewart has all but confirmed that Bakayoko will leave the club in the summer. When asked by NOS if he thinks the winger will stay, he said: “No, I don’t think so.”
Bakayoko will enter the final two years of his contract at PSV this summer.
Liverpool will need a top-quality right-winger to replace Mohamed Salah – either in the summer or in the future when the Egyptian walks away.
We’re sure most Liverpool fans would take Bukayo Saka, but there’s absolutely no way Arsenal will even consider selling him.
So, the Reds could look at someone similar to Saka – Johan Bakayoko has been likened to the Arsenal man by Adrian Clarke.
The pundit said on the Handbrake Off Podcast back in September: “There’s a player on the right wing, their most exciting player and most dangerous player is the right winger. A kid called Johan Bakayoko.
“He’s only 20, he’s quick, he’s like Saka, he’s their version of Saka. He plays off the right and is left-footed.”
