Following Pittsburgh Steelers star pass rusher T.J. Watt losing out on DPOY, there were plenty of people explaining why he was unworthy of the award despite dominating virtually every statistical category over winner Myles Garrett.
One of those critics was Dallas Cowboys pass rusher Micah Parsons, who had a take on Watt that made him look foolish.
Well, in a recent appearance on the Pat McAfee Show, T.J.’s brother J.J. was asked about Parsons’ criticism, and all he could do was laugh:
“I think the Internet handled that properly,โ Watt said. “I think it was handled appropriately. Thatโs what weโre dealing with, man. Thatโs what weโre dealing with…
“…And the stats. But not the stats. And the stats. But definitely not the stats. But look at the stats.”
J.J. was poking fun at Parsons after he attempted to use ESPN’s pass rush win rate metric as the basis of his top five pass rusher rankings.
Parsons left Watt out of his top five, citing his low pass rush win rate, and even saying that teammate Alex Highsmith had a higher percentage.
Except, he didn’t…
T.J. finished tied for fourth in pass rush win rate, significantly higher than two players in Nick Bosa and Maxx Crosby whom Parsons’ had ranked ahead of T.J.
So with J.J. showing plenty of public praise for Watt during the season, him not lighting Parsons up for his uneducated take was truly professional, even if it was funny to watch him try his best to bite his tongue.
