The Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback situation is a mess, and they’ve been linked to a couple of offseason trades to upgrade.
The team is expected, for now, to give Pitt product Kenny Pickett another shot to see if he can be the guy long-term, but Pittsburgh has also been rumored to have interest in Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields – who the Bears seemingly have given up on.
There have also been rumors that the Bears are interested in free agent Kirk Cousins or Denver Broncos signal caller Russell Wilson.
But apparently now, as we edge closer to the NFL Draft in April and close the book on the NFL Scouting Combine, The Athletic reports the Steelers will make no trade for a quarterback.
“The Steelers are not interested in signing Wilson in the likely event heโs released by the Denver Broncos, a source familiar with the coaching staffโs feelings on the quarterback at this stage of his career told The Athletic,” the report states.
“Additionally, Pittsburgh is not among the teams actively working to trade for Fields, league sources told The Athleticโs Dianna Russini. Pittsburgh is also not pursuing Kirk Cousins or Baker Mayfield in free agency, according to league sources.”
Pittsburgh will apparently build around Pickett but could bring in a veteran quarterback for depth. Last season, the Steelers made the playoffs with a quarterback rotation of Pickett and Mason Rudolph while Pickett dealt with injuries.
