Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes Jürgen Klopp will change his plans after leaving Liverpool and return to management in the next year. Klopp will end his nine-year tenure this summer with Liverpool still in the mix to win an unprecedented quadruple.
After announcing his exit, Klopp insisted he would not take up another job in the next year after ‘running out of energy’ and maintained he would never manage in England again. He said in a press conference: “Whatever will happen in the future I don’t know now but no club, no country for the next year. No other English club ever, I can promise that.”
And despite Klopp not ruling out retiring after this season, former Bayern Munich CEO Rummenigge thinks he will be back in the dugout before too long.
“He will be sitting on the bench somewhere again in a year at the latest,” he said on the TOMorrow Business and Style podcast, as Sport Witness shared. “We are all crazy, he’s just like all of us.
“(Football is) a drug at this level. (You need) to get away from this drug, but at some point, the danger of returning is more than latent, I can already predict that to you today. At some point, and I already know that today, he’ll be itching again.”
Xabi Alonso continues to be tipped to replace Klopp at Anfield after impressing with Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. But he is also on Bayern’s radar after the Bundesliga champions opted to part ways with Thomas Tuchel.
Rummenigge’s comments come amid fresh links to the German national job, with Julian Nagelsmann’s contract up after Euro 2024. It remains to be seen if he will be offered an extension with the performance in the tournament likely to dictate his future.
According to SportBILD, Klopp remains the ‘dream solution’ for the German FA but there will be no pressure on the Liverpool boss to make an immediate return. It is claimed that Germany would hope to lure Klopp back in March 2025 ahead of the World Cup the following year, meaning an interim solution would be considered in the mean time.
