Liverpool have been linked with Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala in recent months and speculation continues to do the rounds.
For instance, the Daily Star recently reported that the Reds are among the frontrunners for the 21-year-old, alongside Manchester City.
The report, published last Saturday, also claimed that Musiala has rejected a new contract at Bayern in anticipation of a potential Premier League summer move.
Musiala’s contract runs until the summer of 2026, so this year would be a good opportunity for his club to cash in on him and get a significantly high fee.
The reported Liverpool target is going from strength to strength. At just 21 years of age, he already has 153 appearances for Bayern and 25 Germany caps.
And that’s before mentioning Musiala’s trophy haul. He has a Champions League, a Club World Cup, four Bundesliga titles and several German domestic cups to his name.
On Tuesday night, the reported Anfield target played the full 90 minutes as Bayern overturned a 1-0 deficit in their Champions League last-16 tie against Lazio.
Harry Kane scored twice and Thomas Muller also got on the scoresheet as Musiala and his club went through 3-1 on aggregate.
Liverpool target Jamal Musiala is a ‘fantastic footballer’
Speaking ahead of the match, Rio Ferdinand spoke very highly of the reported Liverpool target, deeming him a potential future Ballon d’Or candidate.
“He’s a fabulous footballer,” Ferdinand said on TNT Sports. “In a world where we talk about stats and data, he ticks that box, but it’s on the eye test where he comes alive.
“The way he receives the ball, he’s elusive, he rides a tackle and gets through traffic with HD. He’s a fantastic footballer.
“I think the highest compliment I can give him is that I don’t know where his ceiling is. Most players even at 20/22 years old, you go ‘I think they are going to get to this level and that’s them.’
“This guy has the potential to win the Ballon d’Or. I’ve said it before, he has the potential to do that if the path goes the right way for him and he’s in a successful team. That’s the platform and foundation for that.”
Liverpool would no doubt be a much stronger team with Musiala in their ranks, but he won’t come cheap. According to the Daily Star report, he could carry a price tag of at least £60million.
There will no doubt be many other elite clubs in pursuit of Musiala too, so the Reds will have a tough task on their hands.
