Fresh off another dominant World Cup season and an Olympic gold medal, Mikaela Shiffrin is wasting no time easing into the offseason. Instead, the skiing icon is already back to work—this time carving turns under the California sun.
Shiffrin recently shared an update from Mammoth Mountain, one of the most reliable spring training destinations for elite skiers. Posting images from the slopes, she kept it simple: “Back at it.”
The California resort has long been a go-to location for top athletes looking to extend their training beyond the traditional winter calendar. Known for its unusually long ski season, Mammoth remains operational well into spring—and sometimes even summer—making it a crucial stop on the global training circuit.
For Shiffrin, it’s just one phase of a year-round routine. After the World Cup season wraps up in the northern hemisphere, she typically rotates between high-altitude U.S. locations like Mammoth and Copper Mountain before heading south to continue training during the southern hemisphere’s winter months.
Her return to the slopes comes after a standout 2026 campaign that further cemented her legacy as the most successful alpine skier in history. She dominated the slalom discipline, winning nine of ten races, and capped the season with Olympic gold—her first since the 2018 Games.
That triumph also marked a powerful comeback after the disappointment of the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where she failed to reach the podium. In the aftermath of those struggles, Shiffrin openly questioned her resilience and future in the sport—but ultimately chose to push forward.
Now, with renewed confidence and momentum, she’s back in training mode, laying the groundwork for yet another season at the top.
Even in a relatively low-snow year, Mammoth Mountain continues to draw athletes and recreational skiers alike thanks to its extended season, with operations expected to run through at least Memorial Day.
For Shiffrin, however, the message is clear: there is no offseason—only preparation for what comes next.
