The world’s best ski racers are banking serious money this season, with the sport’s highest earners pulling in close to $1 million apiece.
Prize money from the World Cup circuit, combined with fat sponsorship deals and appearance fees, has pushed the elite tier into rare financial territory for alpine racing. While ski racing has never rivaled the payday of soccer or tennis, the gap is closing for a select few at the very top.
Olympic champion and record-breaking superstar Mikaela Shiffrin sits near the head of the pack, her dominance on the slopes translating into major commercial value. Swiss powerhouse Marco Odermatt and a handful of other consistent podium threats are right there with her, turning consistent results into seven-figure seasons when all income streams are counted.
The surge reflects growing interest in the sport, bigger broadcast deals, and brands eager to align with winter sports’ most marketable athletes. For racers who can stay healthy and keep winning, the financial upside has never been stronger.
Ski racing may still be a niche sport to some, but at the sharp end of the World Cup, the checks are getting a lot less niche.
