Vincent Kompany has never had much luck taking on Liverpool at Anfield.
Despite all of his success with Manchester City over the years, the Belgian never won at the stadium in eight visits as a player.
That continued today as Kompany took charge of his first game as a manager at Liverpool’s home, losing 3-1 with Burnley. But despite the defeat, the Clarets actually played very well indeed. A top performance from Caoimhin Kelleher was needed as Burnley were left to rue missed chances.
And speaking to BBC Sport after the game, Kompany admitted that he’d never been on a team who created so much at Anfield.
“I’ve been to this place many times as a player myself and didn’t get as many chances as we did today,” rued the 37-year-old. “These types of games you need a little bit of luck but we didn’t have that and it becomes difficult. The team fights, works hard, is always dangerous and at times played really well.
“It’s a credit to the team because they always keep going. I can take positives but obviously we want the results.”
As per Fotmob, Kompany actually doesn’t actually have all that much reason to be upset here. Their statistics put his team as scoring one goal from an xG of 1.24 this afternoon.
Liverpool on the other hand managed three from a score of 2.76. The Reds battered James Trafford’s goal with 25 shots, while Burnley registered just nine.
