New England Patriots quarterback Bryce Barringer has been selected to the Pro Football Writers of America’s 2023 All-Rookie Team, the organization announced Tuesday.
The former consensus Big Ten All-American averaged 46.9 yards per carry during his freshman season at Foxboro. Baringer, 24, went in the sixth round with the 192nd pick out of Illinois and Michigan. Since then, his 98 punts for 4,598 yards are tied for second in the NFL behind New York Jets veteran Thomas Morstead.
A total of 38 of the opposition’s 20 chances were wasted, leading the league.Baringer had long runs of 66, 70 and 79 yards. The right-footed specialist averaged 40.8 yards in the second half of the campaign and saw eight punts converted into touchdowns against New England’s special teams. He also had fellow freshman Chad Ryland score a touchdown and an extra point.
