Rafa Benitez has praised Jurgen Klopp after announcing a move to Liverpool at the end of the season.
The former Reds manager also suggested that the club could have an internal route in finding a new manager. Klopp confirmed on Friday that he plans to leave his role at the end of the season. He spent nearly nine years at Anfield during which Liverpool’s fortunes were revived.
Manchester United are chasing four trophies this season, including the Premier League title, with Klopp’s side leading the way midway through the season. Of course, the German ended Liverpool’s 30-year wait for the league title in 2020 by capturing their sixth European title a year ago.
Benitez, current manager of Celta Vigo, still has close links with Liverpool, where he coached from 2004 to 2010, winning the Champions League. The Spaniard’s connections allowed him to somewhat lift the lid on Klopp’s departure. “I have the advantage of having people at Liverpool and at the club, so I have an idea of how things went,” Benítez told reporters. I can only say good things about Klopp.
Because that person is my friend and I have a good relationship with him. “He has done and continues to do incredible things. All I can say about Klopp and Liverpool is positive.“I know there’s something else inside and it’s more important than what I have there. He votes and gives the club time to rebuild, which is a very German thing in another sense.
This is not surprising, because they warn in advance. “Let’s hope Liverpool do well at the moment and do well when another manager takes over. I wish the club all the best.”
