Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Thiago Alcantara is closer to a return after resuming training with his teammates.
Thiago has been ruled out for the Reds for 278 days with a serious hip injury that required surgery in the summer. The 32-year-old was due to return in August and September but suffered a setback in his recovery regime which kept him out of action until he returned to training this week.
Speaking to the press ahead of the game against Chelsea, the German said [via The Athletic]: “Thiago trained for the first time and it was a very good moment after a few months. “It will take time, but it was a good sign,” he said.Thiago is expected to return in the coming weeks.
The Spaniard has yet to make as good an impression as expected following Klopp’s long-awaited move to Bayern Munich, but Klopp hopes Thiago’s presence in midfield will give him a major boost. Thiago Klopp will be unavailable when Liverpool play Chelsea on Wednesday January 31 and Arsenal on Sunday January 4.
