Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness believes Virgil van Dijk, Alisson and Mohamed Salah will all leave Liverpool over the summer.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – stated that the ‘spine’ of Jurgen Klopp’s squad will follow him through the exit door at Anfield.
Klopp announced last month that he will step down as Reds manager at the end of the season after nine years with Liverpool.
The Merseyside club are currently in the process of trying to find a replacement for the 56-year-old with former Anfield star Xabi Alonso among the favourites.
Klopp’s exit is set to form the start of a transitional summer for the Reds with multiple stars tipped to join the German manager in leaving the club.
As revealed by Football Insider, Liverpool will allow Salah to leave this summer for a fee well in excess of £100million.
“The spine of this Liverpool team may go in the summer,” Wyness told Football Insider.
“I think Alisson, Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah are the sort of players that will leave.
“And it’s because they’ve seen the relationship they’ve had with Jurgen Klopp.
“It’s difficult to redo the success that they’ve had with a new manager.
“Whereas the younger players are obviously much more keen to do that and to make their mark with a new manager – that may suit them better.
“But I do think there will be some of the older spine of the team that may actually go.“
