Alan Shearer has critiqued the performance of Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga following the defeat against Liverpool yesterday.
The pundit was speaking on Match of the Day.
So, what has Shearer said about the performance of Forest winger Elanga? Let’s take a closer look…
What Alan Shearer said about Forest whizz Anthony Elanga
Well, it wasn’t to be for Forest yesterday who after doing lots of good stuff, managed to lose the game in the ninth minute of added time.
Darwin Nunez rose highest and the goal came after referee Paul Tierney first allowed Liverpool the ball back when it should have been Forest’s – and then let the visitors play on when a corner had essentially been cleared.
Still, Forest will have to look at their own performance and on another day the Reds might have finished with all three points against the title-chasing Liverpool.
Shearer discussed the performance of Forest player Elanga last night – and felt that he should have done better with his chances to score
He told Match of the Day: “Forest had the chances to win that game, they created some really good chances. Elanga here he’s one v one but he doesn’t ever really look comfortable – he was wasteful throughout and when you get chances like that against Liverpool I’m afraid you have to put them away.”
Elanga will want to move on from this episode of finishing
It’s hard to be too critical of Elanga as he’s enjoyed a brilliant season at Forest, with five goals and seven assists to his name.
However, he will look back on two gilt-edged chances here that could have seen Forest wrap up a huge three points.
The 21-year-old is going to be some player for Forest and at £15 million he does look like a quality piece of transfer business.
Shearer knows a thing or two about finishing and naturally, he felt that both chances should have been tucked away by the Forest star.
With the Reds in desperate need of points from somewhere, Forest have to stay unified and Elanga will be keen to move on from this one.
