Former FIFA referee Keith Hackett has slammed referee Paul Tierney after Nottingham Forest lost to Liverpool.
The current pundit has taken to Twitter to have his say on the major incident that cost Forest a point.
So, what has Hackett said about Tierney’s input on the Forest result? Let’s take a closer look…
What Keith Hackett said about key decision in Forest clash with Liverpool
Well, he’s basically come out and said what everyone else must be thinking about this monumental mistake by Tierney.
The referee is an established match official and quite simply, a lower league referee would be annoyed to make this routine mistake on one of their games.
Tierney stopped the game for an injured Liverpool player with Callum Hudson-Odoi in possession of the ball outside of the box.
When play was ready to restart, he gave the ball back to Liverpool’s goalkeeper – Forest linked Caoimhin Kelleher – to punt upfield.
Hackett believes the decision was completely wrong in law and he took to Twitter to say the following:
Wow amazing how Tierney could get this so wrong in law.
Hackett spot on to call Tierney out
Evangelos Marinakis was incensed at the end of the game, with the Forest owner marching pitchside to confront the officials.
In our view, that is a sideshow that the club could do without but it’s easy to grasp his frustrations.
Forest have been done over by poor decisions in recent weeks and enough is enough now.
After yesterday, a number of high-profile pundits and former referees have showcased sympathy for Forest.
It’s easy to say that Forest missed chances yesterday and in fairness, they did miss some pretty golden ones to put the game to bed.
However, it can be factually correct that Forest needed to do better and the officials ultimately cost them the chance of a point.
The PGMOL have a lot to answer for and the standards need calling out for what they are!
